Kabbalah Article of the Day

Article of the Day April 26, 2010

I reveal my world, and you reveal yours.  You treat your world egoistically, but when I look at your world and”dress” into it, this world is spiritual for me.  Thus, there is hatred between you and me.  If I turn this hatred into love, I reveal your world and see it as spiritual one.  Thus, I see the spiritual, not the material, because I went out of myself, out of my kelim into yours.  Instead of feeling everything inside of me, I feel the good and the bad in connection with you.  Such exercise in our world is the necessary and vital one.  With the help of this exercise I can get outside and feel the Creator.  It is said: ”I am inside of my people”.  My people is what is outside of me, there, in the desires of my neighbor, I reveal that I have filled them like I would fill my desires and there I reveal the Creator.  If we wish to do that by means of our studies and the group, it will happen.  We should come to this desire, the primal desire that the Upper Light has built for us.  There is nothing we can do here.  I have nothing, but the chance to attract the Light that returns to the Source.  So, where is this light?  It is in your very neighbor.  Of course it is not inside of them directly, as it was in the example with Rabbi Yossi Ben-Kisma, it is not literally inside of them.  My friends are just like me, maybe they are even smaller than me, but the light is in them, even though they do not feel it themselves.  I reveal it only because of my attitude toward them.

Kabbalah On Israel

The division of people into the nation of Israel and the nations of the world, which Baal HaSulam describes in his articles, can be interpreted in two senses: inner and outer. When understood in the inner sense, it describes how qualities are divided within every person, with “Israel” designating one’s aspiration “straight toward the Creator” or the point in the heart hat has awakened in a person, whereas the “nations of the world” are the desires of reception.

Any person whose point in the heart (aspiration to reveal the Creator) has awakened can be called “Israel,” which means “straight toward the Creator.” If one’s point in the heart has not awakened yet, then he belongs to the nations of the world, meaning to all other goals in life.

All the people can be categorized in this fashion and divided into Israel and the other nations. This is the same as what once occurred in Ancient Babylon.

When considering those whose point in the heart has not awakened yet, the science of Kabbalah must first and foremost be disseminated among the nation of Israel in the material sense. After that it should reach the other nations. In addition, the nations of the world include the ten tribes of Israel that fell to the level of “the nations of the world” from the height of the First Temple (Mochin de Haya).

Kabbalah – Foundation Of Spiritual Corrections

The Zohar, Chapter “VaYaera (And the Lord Appeared),” Item 360: “He will keep the feet of His holy ones.” It writes “His holy ones” without a Yod [in Hebrew], which means a holy one, Abraham, with whom the Creator always went, so that others would not be able to harm him. “But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness.” Those are the angels that the Creator killed on the night when Abraham chased them.

The quality of Hesed (Abraham) is the foundation of all other corrections. It’s the first quality that becomes revealed in egoism during its correction. This is why we consider him to be the “father of the nation of Israel,” meaning that he is the father (foundation) of the nation (all other corrections) of Israel (Yashar-El, leading a person straight to the Creator).

Kabbalah – The Light That Reforms

We’ve gotten used to the fact that when we wish to achieve something in our ordinary lives, we exert effort and receive a result. In order to reap a harvest for example, one needs to plow the land, plant seeds, care for crops, and so on. The fruit of the labor is a direct consequence of the effort a person invested.

Spirituality is also impossible to achieve without effort, but for a different reason: the effort builds a spiritual desire (Kli) within, where spiritual fulfillment can be felt. Spiritual fulfillment exists in abundance, but we are unable to sense and perceive it. Man’s efforts cause an influence of the Upper Light, which forms the person, adjusting him or her to its fulfillment. The Upper Light performs all of the work. Therefore, I put in effort to “desire Him,” and the Light works; the Creator and I are partners.

We constantly forget about our Partner, thinking that we need to change and correct ourselves while performing different changes in the society single-handedly, as if everything is centered around and performed by “me.” We forget that we only need to scream out and ask like a little child, and then it will happen. The Light will influence and do everything. The Creator will do “what is necessary,” while we need to guess “what is necessary” and ask Him for this, according to the principle “Make your desire as His.”

We advance too slowly because we constantly forget about correction through the Light by presuming we can win using our own strength. We attempt to transform ourselves and the world, connect the cause and consequence, do the work of the Light and see the result of our work.

At the outset, we forget about the main component, the Light, which gives us the desired form. Subsequently we believe that the outside needs changing and forget that the outside changes only as a result of our inner changes.

The outside world doesn’t change. Rather, our view of the world changes along with our inner qualities, our desire to receive pleasure. As a consequence, a new picture of reality emerges. Therefore, if we fall short of attuning ourselves correctly to spirituality, we can waste years without feeling advancement.

Kabbalah – A Practical Joke

I am trapped in my skin which cuts me off from the Creator who is situated “outside.” I am a slave and I cannot break out. At every given instant, a force influences me and automatically returns me to my own self, to the egoistic center.

How do I force myself to pay attention to what is happening on the outside in order to understand that it is also me? My true reality is “outside”; there, I am together with the Creator; there, I am outside of my animal; there, my soul is outside of the egoistic “I,” which I currently imagine myself to be.

These are two forces that act in nature. I need to arrange them in such a way that the second force (centrifugal) would influence me in the same natural manner, instinctively and inevitably, as the first force (centripetal). Let it occupy my mind and heart and drag me out by force. Let it force me to think about others and worry about them. I need this since this is the only way for me to find my soul.

In this regard, the force of a Kabbalistic group helps me; only the group can convince me to come out of my circle and turn my attention to what is “outside of it.” When I change my attitude from the “intra” (within) to the “extra” (outside). I stop worrying about the body and begin to be concerned with the soul.

I understand that the external reality, which seemed foreign to me and which I was completely indifferent to, contains the real me. This external circle is actually much more valuable to me than the inner one since it contains my soul which is eternal. Meanwhile, the inner circle is merely an animal, which is allotted some 70 years.

However, the concealment does not allow me to see all this. When I begin to realize this, I am amazed to what extent the Creator plays a joke on me.

Kabbalah Article of the Day

Article of the Day April 1, 2010

Kabbalists say that the group is capable of making an individual to aspire toward leaving his vicious circle and attracting his attention to what is happening outside this circle.  At this moment influenced by the group such person starts changing his “eyesight” more and more from internal to external, and, thus, he starts caring about his soul.  He starts realizing that before everything that seemed external to him did not concern him, he did not care about it at all.  He starts understanding that this is not him, he starts seeing that this is actually the hiding.  He starts realizing that this external circle is really more precious to him than the internal one, because this is the place where his soul is, this is the place of eternity, but his internal circle is just the animate part, whose life is limited by 70 years.  He realizes that he does not feel and understand this because of the hiding.  The deeper one realizes this, the more he is surprised that the Creator could hide this from him.  This is the way it works inside of the person’s essence.  This gradually attracts the person, but something inside of him still says:” Leave this alone, do not look at this, do not pay any attention to this, you’d better look at what is inside of you, let the external remain outside of you.”  No matter how long we study TES along with other kabbalistic sources, all of them talk about our kli being divided into external and internal parts: Galgaita Ve Eynaim and AHaP, Mocha, Atsamot, Gidim, Basar and Or or Shoresh, Neshama, Guf, Levush, Heichal.  Those kelim are most important for me, as they are the biggest ones, where the Light of Hochma is revealed, the Creator is revealed, and the Creator is the light of Hochma.  He never reveals Himself internally; He only does this in external kelim.  These are the kelim of receiving.  What trick has the Creator performed to hide this from me!?  The kelim He gave me are those of bestowal-Galgaita Ve Eynaim, and since then I think of myself, about bestowing to me.

Kabbalah Article of the Day

I hope the Light will teach us to love our neighbors. We will attract this light by concentrating on our intentions, on our aspiration toward unity that corrects the breaking. You show your love for the Creator when you attract the light for everyone, because this way you give Him a chance of transferring correct intention to His creations. All the work is in our intention, there is nothing else. The clearer this idea gets for everyone, the more chances we have to conduct very good internal work within those 10 days, mutual directed work, and possibly come to the state when our intention is ready for its first revelation inside of us. This is called “exodus from Egypt”. Everything depends on our intention, there is no other work. There is the will to receive and the Upper Light that is in the state of complete peace, and our intention should connect them together.

Several days are left before Pesach starts, and we still want this holiday to have correct external form, because it helps to determine why we are doing this and what we are exerting our effort for. These signs should become for us the external guard of the reason and the goal. If you determine that the internal is more important than the external, the external would help you in every way, but this is the way it should always be, it should never assume the form of an upside down pyramid. Meaning that the internal should come first, I should decide that I wish to move toward getting out of my exile. We should clearly answer the following questions: What exile am I coming from? What exile is that? What are the sings of it in our world? Then everything works out in a completely different way.
